Crypto Market Update August 5: Bitcoin Increases As ETF Inflows Positive, PUMP and HYPE Altcoins Surge
The revitalization of Bitcoin and altcoin enthusiasm accelerated on August 5, leading to an increase in digital assets stimulated by improved sentiment and higher investor interest at that time. Bitcoin (BTC) increased by 0.60% to about $64,046, and the total crypto market surged 0.79% to $2.19 trillion. There was a positive altcoin breakout, led by Pump Fun (PUMP) and Hyperliquid (HYPE), with increases of 12% and 4% respectively.
Easing Global Conflict Resulting In Rehabilitation of Crypto Market
The rehabilitation of the crypto market appears to have been caused primarily by the easing of global conflict concerns. Investor confidence and an uptick in purchases of risk-based assets, including crypto assets, have been driven by reports of progress by the U.S. in negotiations with Iran to resolve their conflict.

The market rebound caused by the increased interest in major digital assets lifted the total market capitalization of crypto assets to $2.19 trillion, according to data from CoinMarketCap. Most of the major crypto assets in the top ten ranked crypto assets either remained stable or increased with Bitcoin and Ethereum leading the recovery, while other large-cap assets remained stable or increased, with XRP, Tron (TRX), and Dogecoin (DOGE) lagging even more.
Even with positive crypto market momentum, there is still uncertainty in the crypto market, especially with the pending CLARITY Act requiring Congress to prioritize the passage of the Act by 2026 and prediction markets estimating a 13% probability of the Act’s passage this year. Focus during this time appeared to be more on the macro condition and sustaining demand by major institutions rather than on regulatory concerns.
Growing Institutional Demand and ETF Activity Push Bitcoin Prices Up
Bitcoin price gains accelerated following a global appetite for riskier assets. As a result, the S&P 500 Index (now at 7,775 points) registered a record high as of August 4. It seems that overall market optimism is on the rise.

Bitcoin has experienced an inflow of institutional interest via spot Bitcoin ETFs. According to SoSoValue, Bitcoin ETFs have been the recipient of 2 days worth of inflows and have captured approximately $381 million this week. Should these inflows continue at this pace until August 7, it is expected that this will be the best week for Bitcoin ETFs since May 2026.
Current data shows that Bitcoin has gained 0.50% on the day and is trading at $64,046. Meanwhile, Ethereum has gained 0.20% on the day and is trading at $1,867. Bitcoin has a 58.7% market dominance (and Ethereum has 10.3%), according to market data. As of now, the Altcoin Season Index shows we are within a Bitcoin driven market (43/100). The Fear and Greed Index shows we are within a cautious market at 27.
Rise in Traders’ Interest in Crypto Derivatives
The crypto derivatives market has shown similar signs of increasing participation. Coinglass data shows that total market open interest has increased 1.37% to $114 billion.
The derivatives market has been BTC and ETH focused as they have accounted for nearly 66% of the total derivatives market open interest. Bitcoin futures open interest is $48 billion and Ethereum futures open interest is $26 billion.
Nevertheless, increased volatility caused major liquidations. On August 5, the total crypto market had liquidations reaching $204 million, affecting about 69,047 traders, with $34 million in Bitcoin and $15 million in Ethereum liquidations. The largest single liquidation was on Binance with a $6.45 million BTC/USDC position closed.
Bitcoin Technical Outlook: Bullish Momentum Continues
Market buyers’ control is evident in Bitcoin price movements and bullish Bitcoin market sentiment. Price movements show Bitcoin is trending upwards in the 4 hour time frame and upward price movements are within a channel.
The Relative Strength Index (RSI) at 56 reflects bullish sentiments, while the Awesome Oscillator (AO) indicator depicts momentum in bullish sentiment with the green bars increasing.
With Bitcoin successfully breaking the price ceiling at $64,545, the next price target is potentially the $65,700 mark, the highest price set on July 27. ETF inflows and the buying interest from institutions will likely help price increase.
PUMP and HYPE Become Top Altcoin Performers
That same day, the price of Pump Fun (PUMP) increased 12%, trading at $0.0025, making it the most successful altcoin of the day. The token has strong buying interest with a price increase of 34% from July 29. If the bullish momentum carries on, the price of PUMP may reach $0.0030.

PUMP’s RSI being at 73 means the asset is likely being overbought. It is likely that the price will be $0.0020, the support price, before the next increase in momentum.
Hyperliquid (HYPE) attracted attention for having a rounded bottom pattern. Rounded bottom patterns are typically associated with long-term trend reversals. HYPE has a good chance of trending up if it breaks through the $60 resistance level. If breakout strength holds for three consecutive days, we can expect a 17% rise.
Conclusion
The recovery of the crypto markets on August 5 was a result of stronger Bitcoin ETF inflows and the re-emergence of interest in digital assets. Although regulatory caution is present and negative sentiment remains, the increase in participating institutions, coupled with positive indicators of the economy, will provide more support to the markets in the near future. In this environment, Bitcoin is the dominant force, while PUMP and HYPE are the strongest performing altcoins.
